An Open Letter | 03/03/2007
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhi
To all family members of the late Ahmad Zahab bin Hassan, may Allah bless his soul.
I hope my letter will find you and your family in the best state of iman and health.
The purpose of this letter is to make my intention known to all family members that it is time for us to organize a gathering which will include as many as possible the children, grand and great grandchildren of the late Ahmad Zahab.
Let me introduce myself. I am the 10th child of the late Hassan bin Ahmad ansd Siti Juriah bte Ismail. My father was the second child to my grandfather.
For many years I wanted to organize an event whereby all family members will come and get to know one another. We have such a big family and many of us hardly keep in touch and now with the younger generations, we don’t even recognize who is who any longer.
As Muslims, we are supposed to be keeping close family ties. I have lived away from Singapore for many years and have missed many gatherings, may it be a happy or a sad ones.
Another important reason why I would like to propose this gathering is to honor my grandfather and to make known his great contributions to humankind and the environment. I feel that his efforts were not known to many and it is time for his ancestry to find out more about him and the legacy he had left behind.
At present, I am in the process of compiling a small booklet about his life history. I would appreciate it very much if anyone could contribute any kind of information which I can use in this booklet.
Sadly, there isn’t much that I know about both my grandfather and grandmother. Now that the generation of my late father are getting older, we have to try and compile a record so that the younger generations are aware of who they are and where their ancestors were from. Once this booklet is complete, I am very sure that we all can feel proud to be the descendant of the late Ahmad Zahab bin Hassan.
Once this booklet is finished, InshaAllah, it will then be distributed to all family members on the day of the gathering. There were several articles written in the newspaper about him, this will also be included in the booklet, InshaAllah.
I found out that there was an orchid that was cross bred and named after him. I am yet to get confirmation from the person responsible for this.
There are many pictures that could be shown on the day. With the help of my daughter Suraya (her contact details are available on the left hand side menu), InshaAllah, we may be able to scan them and have it shown to all on the day. Or if you do have any interesting photo, please contact my daughter and arrange for the photographs to be scanned.
I have booked my flight back to Singapore on 16th April 2007. The date of the intended gathering is 12th of May 2007. Details of the gathering will be disclosed once we receive more response from all family members. The numbers of attendance will determine the venue requirement.
If there are family members who are living abroad, please encourage them to come back to Singapore to attend this “once in lifetime family reunion”.
Every bit of help will be appreciated. All information will be received with gladness.
I hope that with this gathering, we can tighten the “Sillaturrahim” within our family. Whatever differences that we may have with other members of the family, we have to try and put it away. Let us try and stay as close as possible and to introduce the younger generations to one another.
